JAMESTOWN – The seventh time was finally the one that worked for University of Jamestown ACHA Women’s Hockey.
Gabriella Schroeder scored with 1:39 left in overtime Tuesday at Wilson Arena and gave the Jimmies a comeback 3-2 win over eighth-ranked Niagara, UJ’s first overtime win this season.
The Jimmies (7-14-3) had three losses and three ties in their first six overtime encounters.
Earlier, Schroeder had set up a tying power play goal by Samantha Beaulac at 8:26 of the second period for a 2-2 score. Just 62 seconds before, Sarah Sweitzer had scored shorthanded for a 2-1 Niagara lead.
Kelsey Amick put Jamestown into a first-period lead with her second goal at 14:31.
Layla Rushforth tied the game at 1-1 at 4:03 of the second period for the Eagles.
Katelyn Galuszka played well in the Jamestown net with 238 saves. The Jimmies outshot Niagara 36-30.
Jamestown will again host Niagara Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM at Wilson Arena.
