The Valley City Hi-Liners secured a regular-season sweep of the Fargo Oak Grove Grovers with a commanding 66-33 victory, outscoring the Grovers 37-16 in the second half.

The first quarter proved to be a slow start for both teams, as each squad struggled to convert opportunities into points. Valley City closed the quarter on a high note, with two quick baskets pushing their lead to 11-6 at the buzzer.

The second quarter began in similar fashion, with the Hi-Liners unable to create much separation from Oak Grove. That changed when junior Maddie Anderson provided a defensive spark, forcing multiple steals that led to quick baskets. Anderson’s effort was complemented by Dacota Potratz, who added six points in the quarter to help the Hi-Liners take a 29-17 lead into halftime.

The Hi-Liners dominated the second half, outscoring the Grovers 23-8 in the third quarter. Potratz teamed up with Katie Burchill to fuel the offensive surge. Meanwhile, Oak Grove struggled to find consistency, relying heavily on free throws, which accounted for nearly half of their points through three quarters.

With a comfortable lead heading into the fourth, Valley City rotated in reserves to close out the game. Senior Bailey Leroux hit a pair of shots in the final minutes, while freshman Kinslee Glandt knocked down a three-pointer. Potratz led all scorers with 19 points, guiding the Hi-Liners to the decisive 66-33 win.

Up next, the Hi-Liners will travel to Beulah on Saturday to face the Miners. Fans can also catch the Valley City boys’ game against the Killdeer Cowboys Friday at 7 p.m. on 1490 AM/96.3 FM KOVC.
