JAMESTOWN – As close to two generations of basketball players know, the three-pointer can be a big difference-maker.
It was for Jamestown High School Girls Basketball on Tuesday. Haley Attleson hit six from behind the arc and scored 20 points as the Blue Jays shocked Legacy 64-57 at Jerry Meyer Arena.
Though the Blue Jay boys played tough defensively, they remained winless with a 66-56 loss to Legacy.
Girls: Jamestown 64, (4)Legacy 57
Five of Attleson’s threes came in a 15-point first half for the Blue Jays (3-6, 1-5 WDA). She had hit only four in the season’s first eight games. Jamestown totaled 10 threes in the first half and had a 38-27 lead at halftime after leading by as much as 16 points.
Legacy (7-2, 4-2) came as close as three down in the second half, but Attleson and Adisyn Yunck hit important threes as Jamestown held on for the upset and the end of a five-game losing streak.
Yunck scored 12. Leah Trumbauer poured in 11 and also hit a three. Macey Neumiller tallied nine off the bench.
Marlee Falcon scored 22 for Legacy with four three-pointers. Brooklyn Felchle had 16 points.

Even as Jamestown tried to slow the pace of the game down through the first half, Legacy held on, despite not having available Parker Falcon, their leading scorer and rebounder.
Makiya Berryhill and Jonathan Roubideaux contributed in Falcon’s absence for Legacy (7-2, 4-2). Berryhill scored 18 points and Roubideaux notched 17. Each hit two three-pointers. Point guard Brody Weigel also hit two treys and dropped in 12.
Thomas Newman led Jamestown (0-8, 0-6) with 24 points, including 16 in the second half. Newman also had three three-pointers, doubling his total for the season. Jaxon Kolpin scored 16, including 11 after halftime.
Both Blue Jay teams will play at Williston Friday.
