LAS VEGAS, NV – Jamestown scored first, but a confident UNLV team rolled after that.
UNLV, whose ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team recently posted a stunning win over defending NCAA Division I national champion Denver, overwhelmed the Jimmies 7-1 on Friday at City National Arena.
Keaton Cline’s sixth goal of the season at 7:54 of the first period gave UJ (17-9-0) a 1-0 lead. A power play goal by Bradley Golant with 1:20 left in the opening 20 minutes tied the game at 1-1.
Oliver Band scored at 9:53 of the second and UNLV (17-1-0) led 2-1. Dylan Jensen (16:04) and Heath Mensch (16:41) scored later in the period.
Golant, Ronan Keenan and Caleb Strong scored in the third period for the Rebels, who earned their 15th straight win.
UNLV had a 44-21 shot advantage. Brandon Weare made 37 saves.
The Jimmies will again play at UNLV on Saturday night.
