VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Mylee Christianson wrestles at 142lbs for the Hi-Liner Girls wresting team.
Mylee had a whopper of a Rumble on the Red Tournament.  The Rumble on the Red is considered one of the most difficult, if not the most difficult tournament of the high school season.  She went 5-0 across the two day two day tournament.  She started Day 1 with a bye, followed by 2 pins and a 6-2 win over Anna Karsky from Dickinson.
On Day 2, she started the day in the semi-finals against Hanna Ryeberg from Bismarck Legacy.  At the end of the regulation match, the score was tied at 1 point each.  In the first overtime, which is 60 seconds long and is “sudden victory” meaning the first person to score is the winner, Mylee was able to secure a take down 32 seconds into the overtime for the win.
In a tense Championship match vs Paige Baumgartner from Bismarck High School, Mylee came away with a 2-1 victory, to claim the 142-lb title in the 2025 Rumble on the Red.
Coaches note: One of Mylee’s best attributes is to slow the match down, and wrestle it at her pace, not her opponents pace, while remaining calm and under control. She is never panicked or rushed during her matches, and is always aware of the situation. Often in the sport of wrestling, wrestlers make mistakes due to the high pace, high emotion and high intensity of the match.  If that happens in one of Mylee’s matches, it’s usually her opponent making that mistake.  My is currently 17-1 on the season.

Most memorable wrestling moment so far:  Ripping Tim’s notepad
(coaches note/explanation): At practice, Mylee was wrestling and my notepad with many wrestling notes was lying near the edge of the mat. I happened to be near where her and her opponent were wrestling.  I saw Mylee back up, and approaching the notepad. Just as I was going to move it, I could see I was going to be too late, so started to yell “Mylee Stop”– all that I got out was “MY– ” and she stepped on the notepad and at the same time planted her foot to go forward, and literally 70% of the pages and the cover ripped out and flew across the mat. Somehow, even though they were detached from the rest of the notebook, the loose pages were fanned out in what looked some sort of organized pattern.  Mylee then stopped, looked over at the scattered paper situation.   There was about 5 seconds of complete silence (she knows that notebook is kinda important to me), followed by Mylee busting out in a loud hybrid laugh/cackle combination.
Hardest part about the sport of wrestling: having practice on Sundays
