(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School boys basketball team saw their 2012-13 season come to an end on Tuesday night, as they fell to the Sargent Central Cadets 56-49 in a regional qualification contest at the District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament.

The Tornadoes and Cadets ended up shooting relatively the same percentage from the floor from the game, however, second chance points proved to be the defining statistic in the contest; as the Cadets had 15 second chance points, while the Tornadoes managed just one. Oakes trailed by eight at the half, and pulled the game to within three points midway through the fourth quarter; but never made it closer than three down the stretch.

Devin Arp scored 15 points for Sargent Central, who along with Hankinson, Milnor and Wyndmere/Lidgerwood will represent District 1 at the Region I tournament next week. Oakes was lead by Freshman Ethan Zetocha who scored 21 points.

Oakes’ season ends at 5-17.
