Ellendale, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes swept aside the Ellendale Cardinals in a Girls/Boys Doubleheader. The Girls would dominate defensively winning 56-15. While the boys would shoot well and use a stoudt defense to win 69-36.

Girls

The girls game started out slow with neither team able to get the ball rolling for a couple minutes. Eventually  Oakes would get on the board and they would not look back the rest of the night. They would jump to a 14-5 lead after the 1st quarter and a 36-13 lead at the half. They would allow only bad angle shots from Ellendale keeping them out of the paint and off balance while going 14/25 themselves in the half.

They’d hold Ellendale to only 2 points in the 2nd half as they’d continue to build their lead to 48-15 after the third quarter and win 56-15 for the final score.

The Tornadoes end the calendar year with 1 loss.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Isabelle Friedt who led the way in scoring with 16 going 7/9 from the field.

Both teams now enter into the holiday break.

Boys

The 79th annual Cowbell Game started well for Oakes as they’d drop 3 3-balls in the opening frame to lead them to a 18-9 lead. They would use that momentum to take a 32-15 lead at the half limiting Ellendale to only 2 field goals in the 2nd quarter. The Tornadoes would continue to buoy their lead going 8/17 from the field in the 3rd quarter to build the lead to 51-25 and eventually winning it 69-36.

This was the first time since the 1997/98 season that Oakes has won the Cowbell in back to back seasons. This is also the first time since the 1992/93 season that Oakes has won by more than 3, the first time anyone has won by more then 30 since the 2003/04 season, and the 7th +30 game in the 79 year history of the Cowbell Game.
