Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Minot High Magicians crowned 3 individual champions and racked up 188 team points to outlast runner-up Velva with 171 points. The host team Carrington finished in 6th place with 113,5 points. Lisbon (162.5), Napoleon (126.5), and New Salem-Almomt (122.5) finished 3-4-5. Fifteen teams competed in the tournament.
Carrington had 9 placers out of the 12 wrestlers entered with 2 reaching the finals. Senior Dru Carr, the number 2 seed lost the 121 title match to top seeded Dalton Feist of Napoleon by a 14-4 major decision. Sophomore Nic Garber, number 2 seed, lost a tough sudden victory overtime defeat to top seeded Carson Hildre of Velva. Other Carrington placers included Skye Kramlich (114), 3rd place, Max Ciubotareanu (160), 3rd place, Mason Cook (107) 5th place, Kallen Wolsky (127), 5th place, Jaxson Wislon (127), 5th place, Jacob Hinrichs (215), 6th place, and Callen Garber (189), 6th place. Callen Garber was the top seed at 189 and won his quarterfinal match by fall but had to medically default the rest of his matches. No details on the injury/issue with Garber at this time. Other Cardinals participating that did not place included Gabe Inglish at 1o7, Kirby Freeman at 215, and Charlie Jorgensen at 285.
Minot had 3 champions, Korbin Kraft at 127 defeated Pitch Hager of Velva 6-4, Lincoln Brooks at 215 defeated teammate Tucker Nelson by fall at 5:12, and Evan Berg won the 189 pound title with a quick fall at :36 over Logan Vincent of Velva.
Other championship matches had Derick Jorissen (107) from Central Cass (CC) win by TF 18-1 (4:49) over Chase Becher of New Salem-Almont (NSA), 114–Isaiah Hackman of Velva with a 4-3 decision over John Kahl of CC, 133–Charlie Irwin (NSA) 7-1 decision over Noah Anderson of Lisbon, 139–Cruz Reinke (Lisbon) over Logan Werner of Pembina County (PC), 145–Griffin Greenley (Lisbon) over Brextyn Yanish by fall at :44, 160–Mason Weigel (Napoleon) by fall 1:30 over Maddox Campbell of Velva, 172–Drew Zwak (Bishop Ryan) 7-3 decision over Eli Lyons (Lisbon), and 285 Cade Okeson (Bishop Ryan) by fall at 4:44 over Carter Engebretson ov Harvey-Wells County.
