WILLISTON – It’s still a great start for Jamestown Blue Jay Boys Hockey, but it now has a blemish.

Williston rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime Saturday, then won 4-3 in a shootout at the Agri Sports Center to end Jamestown’s four-game season opening win streak.

Hayden Lappegaard scored the second of his two goals to tie the game with only 1:38 left in the third period.  Jamestown killed a too many men on the ice penalty in the overtime period, but could not prevail in the shootout.

Blaise Mahar scored first for Williston at 6:50 of the first period.  Bennett Goehner tied the game for Jamestown at 11:24, assisted by Derek Hatlewick and John Belzer.  Period one ended with a 1-1 draw.

Jacoby Traut potted his second goal of the season to break the tie only 43 seconds into the second period.  Max Whitman, set up by Parker Roelfsma and Hatlewick, made the Blue Jay lead 3-1 1:48 after Traut’s goal.  Lappegaard’s first goal came at 4:27 of the second for Williston to cut the visitors’ lead in half.

Leif Hanson was again sharp in goal for Jamestown (4-0-0-1), making 25 saves.

Through Saturday, Jamestown’s 13 points led the West Region by one point over Minot.

The Blue Jays will host Bismarck Century on Friday night at Wilson Arena.  Coverage will begin Friday at 7:15 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
