MILES CITY, MT – University of Jamestown Women’s Basketball will now have a bit of a break around Christmas, and with their recent play, they are sure to enjoy it.
The 24th-ranked Jimmies won for the seventh straight time Saturday, having very little trouble in a 76-54 win over Montana Western at Miles Community College’s Kailey Gymnasium.
True freshman Jayden Wiest led Jamestown (9-1) with 18 points, all on three-pointers. Wiest hit six-of-eight threes. Kate Cordes scored 13 with four rebounds and three assists. She made three three-pointers. Sarah Lenz had eight points, all in the third quarter, and made two from behind the arc. 12 different players scored for the Jimmies.
Trinidie Nichols scored 16 and Kenzie Pederson had 12 for Montana Western (2-5), who lost to Jamestown for the second time in a nine-day span.
In the first minute, the Bulldogs scored the game’s first two baskets, but the Jimmies outscored UMW 20-6 for the rest of the quarter and led 20-10 through one period.
Wiest hit three three-pointers in a span of 2:28 in the second quarter, followed by two threes from Cordes, the second of which gave UJ a 39-19 halftime lead.
Jamestown then never led by less than 16 in the second half.
The Jimmies shot well, with 49% on field goals and 13-of-29 on three-pointers, including 12 of their last 17.
Jamestown’s next game will be on Saturday, December 28 against Rocky Mountain College in the Green and Gold Classic in Billings, Montana.
