Bruce “Red” Russell Lawrence, age 69, passed away suddenly at his home on December 11, 2024. He was born on October 19, 1955, in Oakes, North Dakota, to Thomas and Doris (Siedschlag) Lawrence.
Bruce graduated from Courtenay High School in 1973 and went on to build a life full of adventure and passion. He started his career in various jobs before discovering his true calling in trucking. He found joy in the open road, especially when he began moving mobile homes, and his stories from his years of over-the-road trucking became a beloved part of his legacy. Bruce was also a car enthusiast, with a particular love for the thrill of the hunt. His most recent passion project was the full restoration of his 1968 Mustang, a car he had bought for his 18th birthday and had dreamed of reviving for decades.
Bruce’s heart was as big as his personality. He lived life to the fullest, came to the assistance of more people than stars in the universe, and loved his family fiercely. There was only one “Red,” and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Kimi Lawrence (Schlecht), whom he married on June 14, 1974, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wimbledon, ND; their children, son Thomas Lawrence (wife Robyn) and daughter Andrea; his grandchildren, Shelby Louwagie (Lawrence) (husband Jarrett), Erin Lawrence, Lindsey Lawrence, Kloey Grimson, Libby Grimson, Grace Grimson, Asher Bonderud, and Russel Bonderud; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Memorial Service – 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with a Celebration of Life and an impromptu Car Show at the Hitchin’ Post to follow.
