Amy Jill (Olstad) Restad, age 51, passed away on December 9, 2024, at her family home in rural Valley City, under the compassionate care of CHI Hospice. Born on July 6, 1973, in Fargo, North Dakota, she was the cherished daughter of David and Karen (Hannig) Olstad and grew up on her family’s farm north of Valley City.
She graduated from Oriska High School in 1991. Amy later made her home in Alexandria, Minnesota, where she embraced her role as a devoted mother to her three sons: Brandon Breer, Jaxon Restad, and Maddox Restad, alongside her four beloved cats, Khabib, Thor, Bart, and Stanley.
Amy’s warm heart extended to her family, including her parents, siblings: Tami Dahl (Kevin Smith) Rifle, CO; Rob Olstad (Bev Virnig) Valley City, ND and Sandy (Wade) Zahn, Kulm ND and her nieces and nephews: Brittanie Dahl, Jacey Dahl, Tanner (Taylor) Zahn, Hunter Olstad, Tyler (Avarie) Zahn, and Tayia Zahn. Great nephews: Conner, Daniel and Braxton. Great Nieces: Trinity and Ruthie.
An adventurous spirit, she found joy in exploring old houses and abandoned buildings, and her eclectic music collection reflected her vibrant personality. She loved cats and fostered them for a time. She will be missed by all who knew her especially her family. We will cherish the time we had with her and can’t wait to see her again. We all love her very much!!!!
Amy endured many health issues leading to her passing away due to hepatorenal failure brought on by the over prescription of acetaminophen and ibuprofen for chronic kidney stones. Despite these challenges, her final wish was to raise awareness about the medical industry’s response to the opioid crisis.
Preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Doris Olstad and Bob and Marcie Hannig, Amy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. The family extends their gratitude to CHI Hospice and the medical staff at Alomere Hospital for their support during her final days.
Private funeral arrangements are being made for the immediate family, with a Celebration of Life planned for the summer.
