Steven “PeeWee” Nelson, 74, of Oakes, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born to Willis and Nelma Nelson on March 17, 1950 in LaMoure, ND, PeeWee grew up in the Stirum, ND area. On July 26, 1974, he married Peggy Bjerke, the love of his life. Together, they raised three children and celebrated 50 years of marriage this past summer, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Throughout his life, PeeWee worked in construction, farming with his father, and raising pigs with the help of his wife and children. Later in life he worked at Hoffman Irrigation. During his free time, he enjoyed spending time in his shop where he could always be found tinkering, inventing, or repairing things.
Known for his infectious sense of humor, PeeWee had a knack for telling colorful stories and jokes and giving nicknames to those he loved. He cherished his time outdoors hunting and fishing with his family, particularly with his son, Wally (Shay). Grandpa PeeWee was a true softie when it came to his grandchildren, often spoiling them with treats and affection. He had a special love for pugs, especially his dogs Little and George. He enjoyed taking his Harley out for a spin whenever he could. He was a loyal friend, and once you were in his circle, you had a friend for life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy; children, Christina (Travis Atwood) Nelson, Stephanie (Jeremy) Ness and Shay (Amber) Nelson; grandchildren, Jordyn Atwood, Dalton Ness, Leah Nelson, Ayden Ness and Jaren Nelson; sister, Karen (Bob) Ubben; special nephew, Aaron Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.
PeeWee was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Nelma Nelson, brothers Roger Nelson and Lee Nelson and brother-in-law Doug Olson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Shay Nelson’s farm north of Oakes, ND. Memories may be shared and viewed on the Dahlstrom Funeral Home website www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com on his obituary page.
