FARGO- Easton Simon threw for 276 yards and four touchdowns, Easton Benz caught five passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns and added a pick-six as the New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock Rockets used a 40-point second quarter en route to a 62-26 9-man Championship Game win over Lamoure-Litchville/Marion on Friday afternoon inside the FargoDome for their second ever title and first since 2012.
The 62 points set a DakotaBowl record, previously held by Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (60 in 2017) while scoring forty second quarter points in less than ten minutes to blow open an 8-0 game as they led 48-14 at halftime. The 62 marked the tenth time this season the Rockets (12-0) achieved the 60-point plateau. Carter Engebretson added 180 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on only 12 carries.
The Loboes (11-1) were once again led by Junior RB Gunnar Thielges, who had 177 yards receiving and 74 yards on the ground, which put his season total at 3,070 rushing yards in 2024 while also returning a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore QB Mason Warcken threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
