BUTTE, MT – A complete effort gave University of Jamestown Men’s Basketball its first win of the season and the first win for Casey Bruggeman as head coach.
Cole Glasgow scored 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting Friday as Jamestown pulled away in the second half to top Montana Western 76-57 in the Best Western Tip-Off at Montana Tech’s HPER Complex.
Owen Hektner scored 17 for Jamestown (1-1) and Jimmy Llinas had his ninth double-double as a Jimmie with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Will Cordes scored nine. Silas Bennion had six points, six assists and five rebounds. Anthony Walters contributed nine points and five rebounds off the bench. Hunter Lyman had 10 rebounds.
Jalyn Stepney led Montana Western (2-1) with 23 points.
Jamestown, who never trailed, had a 9-2 run in the first 4:42 and led by 10 at 23-13. A Lyman layup with 2:17 left in the first half put UJ up 36-27, but two jumpers by Stepney and a layup by Kevin Bethel brought MWU to within 36-33 at halftime.
The Jimmies then began the second half with a 10-0 run over the first 3:47 on a Hektner jumper, a Llinas dunk and three layups by Glasgow. Jamestown’s led was never less than 11 for the remainder of the game.
UJ made exactly half of their field goals and out-rebounded Montana Western 38-26.
On Saturday evening in Butte, Jamestown will meet ninth-ranked Montana Tech.
