JAMESTOWN – The Jimmies in general and Isaiah Roebuck in particular couldn’t do much more.  But the champions remain so.

Dickinson State held off a rousing University of Jamestown challenge for a 35-30 win Saturday at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.  DSU captured their 10th consecutive – and the last – NSAA regular-season football championship.

Roebuck set a UJ football reception record for a single game with 17 for 166 yards.

Darion Brown rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown while Braden Zuroff rushed for 79 yards and a score to lead a 250-yard rushing game for Dickinson State (7-1, 6-0 NSAA).  Quarterback Will Madler rushed for a touchdown and passed for two more.

The Blue Hawks scored first just over four minutes into the game, ending their second possession with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Madler to Semaj Clark.

Jamestown (2-7, 2-5 NSAA) tied the game with their next drive, ending with a nine-yard scoring pass from John Grann to Nate Burke.  Burke made his first reception as a Jimmie on the play before that, catching a 45-yard strike from Grann to convert third down & nine.

DSU took the lead again on the first play of the second quarter when Zuroff ran in a three-yard six-pointer.

A failed fake punt by the Jimmies later in the second quarter led to the Blue Hawks’ Brown giving the visitors a 21-7 lead on another three-yard scoring run.

Jamestown scored just 17 seconds before the half.  Roebuck’s third catch of a 59-yard drive was for a 17-yard touchdown and the Jimmies were down 21-14 at halftime.

Taking the kickoff to open the second half, Jamestown then marched 60 yards for the tying score just over four minutes into the third quarter, a 24-yard run by Zach Hammett, marking his fifth consecutive game with a touchdown run.

Dickinson State came right back with a 75-yard scoring drive, capped by a three-yard scoring pass from Madler to Gage Gilbert.

Early in the fourth quarter, Jamestown cut the DSU lead to 28-24 with a 22-yard field goal by Aanon Peterson.

Madler rushed for a 10-yard touchdown with 7:16 left and the Blue Hawks led 35-24.

Jamestown drove 79 yards in the last two minutes.  Grann found Roebuck for an 18-yard score with 1:18 to go, four plays after hitting Erastus Antsino with a 44-yard pass.  A two-point conversion failed and the Jimmies trailed 35-30.

Jamestown could not recover an onside kick and Dickinson State ran out the last 1:12.

Grann, who established a career-high for completions, was 32-of-49 for 372 yards.  Burke had six catches for 110 yards.  Hammett rushed 15 times for 73 yards.

Jed Rantz led the Jimmies’ defense with seven tackles and a half of a sack.  Parker Chafee had six tackles.

After a bye week, the Jimmies will close the regular season with the Paint Bucket game, the last scheduled one for the foreseeable future, with VCSU on Saturday, November 16 at Hansen Stadium.  Coverage that day will begin at 12:30 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
