JAMESTOWN – Though the end result didn’t go Jamestown’s way, the Blue Jays showed that they can take one of WDA volleyball’s best teams to the limit.

Dickinson held off Jamestown Tuesday at Jerry Meyer Arena 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-13 in a double counter match.

An ace and two kills by Jenna Nelson helped Dickinson (22-11, 15-5 WDA) to a 10-3 lead in the fifth set, but Jamestown used four kills by Lucy Falk to move within 12-10.  Jamestown was down only 14-13 after a service error, but Nelson’s 21st kill ended the match.

After the first set was tied 14-14, Dickinson scored 11 of the last 14 points.  Nelson had five kills in the set.

Jamestown rebounded to take the second set as Falk had six kills.

Lexi Bradley and Jersi Luchi each had two kills for Dickinson as they used an 8-1 run to turn an 11-10 into 19-11.  Bradley then struck a kill to end the third set.

Edie Hegerle and Leah Trumbauer combined for seven kills as Jamestown (17-14, 9-10 WDA) took the fourth set.  Leading just 17-14, the Blue Jays captured eight of the last 10 points.

Nelson also had 11 digs and four aces for Dickinson.  Kiera Paulson and Luchi each had nine kills.  Cecilia Horniston had 49 set assists, 11 digs and two and a half blocks.  Kaley Embry had 22 digs and two aces.

Falk led Jamestown with 18 kills.  Trumbauer had 10.  Edie Hegerle had 25 digs, 39 set assists and two aces.  Jetta Peterson had 18 digs.

This was designated to be the “Pink Power” match.  Over $13,000 were raised to benefit the JRMC Cancer Center.  Both teams wore pink jerseys.

Jamestown will next play at Mandan Thursday.
