MAPLETON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a collision involving a semi-tractor and a train at an uncontrolled railroad crossing east of Mapleton on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. near the intersection of 164th Ave. SE and Co Rd 10.

According to initial reports, the semi was traveling south on 164th Ave. SE when it reached the crossing. The driver continued through, and the westbound train struck the trailer section of the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, the train remained on the tracks, and the crash resulted only in property damage. The semi driver, a 27-year-old, was cited for failing to stop at a railroad crossing. The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation is ongoing.

In a media release, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public of the importance of exercising caution at railroad crossings, particularly those without automated controls, and encouraged all drivers to remain alert when approaching such crossings.
