FARGO, ND (October 16, 2024) – Local community members recently came together at Essentia Health Plaza at The Lights for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s®- Fargo/Moorhead on Sept. 14. Together, 637 walkers, donors and sponsors raised more than $142,000 for the Association’s programs that support local families and dementia research.

Walk manager Sarah Flesberg said, “We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and our generous community sponsors this year! This day is always inspiring as it brings people impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementia together so they do not have to face this disease alone.”

Team LOKE from Edward Jones was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk, raising $8,272. The members have come together to participate in the Fargo-Moorhead Walk for many years. Team captain Krista Loke has participated for nearly a decade.

“Seeing so many people come together is amazing and hopeful,” said Loke. “Thank you to all the teams, families, volunteers, and staff who worked very hard to put together a great day. I am looking forward to seeing even more people in our community and surrounding areas come together as we fight to end Alzheimer’s next year.”

More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s – a leading cause of death in the United States. More than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with the disease. In North Dakota alone, there are 13,700 people living with Alzheimer’s and they are supported by 19,000 caregivers.

Donations of any amount are continuing to be accepted for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Fargo/Moorhead until Dec. 31, 2024. The Association relies on these funds to provide critical support for families in the community. Gifts can be made at http://act.alz.org/fargo.
