JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown man was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with two years suspended, on Wednesday, Oct. 16, for his role in a fentanyl overdose that left his 2-year-old child unresponsive. The sentence was imposed by Southeast District Court Judge Daniel Narum, who rejected a plea agreement recommended by attorneys in the case.
Christopher William Johnson, 40, pleaded guilty to child endangerment, a Class B felony, for the June incident. Several related charges, including reckless endangerment and drug possession, were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Johnson received credit for 12 days served and will be on supervised probation for two years following his release. He was accused of endangering his child by exposing them to fentanyl in the home, creating a significant risk of harm.
The case dates back to June 2, when Jamestown police and emergency personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old. First responders administered Narcan, and the child was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment and stabilization.
Court documents reveal that Johnson admitted to using fentanyl in the home, falling asleep, and waking to find his child unconscious.
