Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes hadn’t been swept in regular season play and were riding a 7 game win streak before their final District 5 game of the regular season. With a win the Tornados would claim the #1 seed in the District 5 Tournament a loss would send them all the way down to 4th. Carrington could only finish at best 2nd with a win and in 3rd with a loss. The Cardinals would come to Oakes and do something no team has done since September 14th 2023, they swept the Tornados.

The match started with a back and forth affair with the Cards holding a slight advantage with a lead taken at 7-6 and built all the way to 18-12. Oakes would turn around it around however and tie it up at 18-18 and take the lead at 19-18. The lead would not last however as Carrington would take it back at 20-19. They would trade points back and forth till Carrington won 25-23.

Set 2 saw Oakes jump out to a 5-2 lead early on but that lead would quickly evaporate with the Cardinals taking the lead at 7-6. They would trade points till 9-9 when Carrington would jump to a 17-9 lead. The lead would stay large through the rest of the set with Carrington taking it 25-14.

The Tornadoes and Cardinals would go back and forth to start set 3 with a back and forth affair with 6 ties and 2 lead changes up till 8-8. Carrington would then make it 13-8 and hold the lead till Oakes battled back to tie it at 17-17. The Cardinals would end the match though going on a 8-1 run to win 25-18.

The Bank North Players of the game was Oakes’ Molly Sitzler and Carrington’s Isabel Wendel.

With the win Carrington rises to 4-1 and into 2nd place with EKM holding a tie breaker with 1 district match left for both of those teams. For Oakes they end District play with a 4-2 record and will likely finish in 4th place with LaMoure-LM holding a tie breaker with only 1 district match to play against BCN.
