CROOKSTON, MN – Mason Romfo scored twice and had an assist Friday as Minnesota-Crookston stopped Jamestown in ACHA Division 2 Men’s Hockey 4-2 at the Crookston Sports Center in the Golden Eagles’ season opener.
Romfo’s first tally came only 3:03 into the game for Minnesota-Crookston (1-0), but Tyler Ralph scored a shorthanded goal, his 6th goal of the season, at 12:37 to tie the game for the Jimmies (4-3). On the same powerplay, Jackson Dodds scored at 13:42 to give Crookston the lead back at 2-1.
Romfo scored again at 14:20 of the middle period, and the Crookston lead was 4-1 after Fox Dodds scored at 11:54 of the third period. James Poole scored his fifth for UJ to close the scoring at 16:12 of the third.
Jamestown was outshot by Minnesota-Crookston 62-29, and Xavier Baker played the entire game in goal for the Jimmies, making 58 saves.
Jamestown will play again at Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday.
