VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Board of Commissioners issued a burn ban after grass fires ignited in multiple areas in the county due to tender dry conditions.

Emergency Manager Jessica Jenrich said there is a temporary burn ban for all Barnes County effective until further notice.

The Burn Ban includes the burning of leaves, grass clippings, garbage/pits, construction debris, fallen trees, crop residue or hay land, sloughs, and campfires/bonfires. Gas, charcoal or wood-fired grills or gas camp stoves with a cover may be used so long as it is on a hard, non-organic surface and 15 feet or more away from vegetation and an extinguisher or water is available.

Fire Danger Rating is HIGH. Violation of this order is guilty of a Class B Misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to 30 days in jail, a $1500 fine per incident as well as cost for fire suppression. See attached emergency declaration for more information.
