CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Both of the Valley City State basketball teams picked up win No. 20 on Saturday.

The Viking men and women swept South Dakota School of Mines during a doubleheader, and in the process both VCSU teams improved to 20-6 this season.

Valley City State’s men led by as many as 16 in the first half, but had to hang on down the stretch. Sekani Milligen hit two free throws in the final minute, and then Aaron Duske scored a layup with 3 seconds left to clinch a 61-55 victory over the Hardrockers.

Milligen led the Vikings with 18 points, and also scored his 1000th career point at VCSU during the game.  Duske and Gus Kueber each scored 10 points, including two dunks from Kueber.

In the women’s game, Valley City State started slow, falling behind 20-10. They rallied for a tie at halftime, and then led by as many as 10 in the second half before winning 64-58.

Courtney Titus scored 17 to lead Valley City State. She was 13-for-16 on free throws. Katelyn Ralston added 11 points in the win.

Both the Viking women and men host Mayville State on Wednesday night in a rivalry matchup. VCSU’s women are 0-2 against Mayville this year. The Viking men are 2-0 against the Comets. Pregame coverage at 5:15 p.m. on Dakota Country Radio and NewsDakota.com.
