CASS COUNTY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, October 4, at a predetermined location in Cass County. Following the checkpoint, saturation patrols will take place throughout the region to deter impaired driving and remove intoxicated drivers from the roads.

Sgt. Andrew Cashin, NDHP Southeast Regional Sergeant, emphasized the importance of sober driving. “Drinking alcohol or using substances that affect your driving impairs judgment, reaction times, and coordination, and increases the risk of crashes that result in injury or death to yourself and others. Our goal is to ensure the safety of everyone on the road,” Cashin said.

As of September 20, 2024, North Dakota has recorded 68 fatalities on its roadways, with 10 deaths linked to crashes involving alcohol. The NDHP’s efforts are part of the Vision Zero strategy, which aims to promote personal responsibility and eliminate traffic fatalities.

The NDHP urges drivers to make responsible choices by always driving sober or planning for a sober ride home. Results from the checkpoint and patrols will be released the following week.
