LISBON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Lisbon man who threatened to kill his father during a dispute over nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, has been handed a suspended sentence.

Hunter Mairs, 31, pleaded guilty to charges including terrorizing, simple assault, interference with an emergency call, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A judge sentenced Mairs to one year in jail but credited him for 14 days already served and suspended the remainder of the sentence for two years.

Mairs is required to undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and will be placed on supervised probation for the next two years.

An investigation revealed that Mairs had been using marijuana, Adderall, and nitrous oxide, and had been causing disturbances at the family home for several weeks leading up to his arrest in late August.
