ELLENDALE, N.D. (NDHP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol said a GMC Sierra driven by 41-year-old George Wiehahn of Ellendale was southbound on Highway 281. Wiehahn had slowed to make a left turn to go east on State Line Rd. At the same time a Subaru Ascent driven by 63-year-old Vernon Dalstein of Ellendale was southbound on Highway 281 when he struck the rear of the GMC Sierra. Both vehicles left the roadway. The Subaru Ascent came to rest in a slough nearby.

EMS responders arrived on scene and provided treatment to those involved. Both Vernon and 63-year-old Sherry Dalstein were transported to Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen.

George Wiehahn and Sherry Dalstein both sustained minor injuries in the crash. Vernon Dalstein Jr. sustained serious injuries in the crash. He died as a result of those injuries later in the day on September 18th.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
