VALLEY CITY, N.D. (CCHD) – The Sheyenne Valley Memory Café began in 2023 to bring together individuals with dementia or early onset Alzheimer’s. The Memory Café also provides support and connection for caregivers and family members.
The second season of the Memory Cafe kicks off at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City on Thursday, September 26th.
“We are excited to start our second year of the Sheyenne Valley Memory Café,” says Kerry Due, Director of Nursing at City-County Health District. Sheyenne Valley Memory Café will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 1-3 PM at Faith Lutheran Church at 309 4th Street NE, Valley City.
Sue Milender from NDSU Extension-Barnes County will provide a short program, “Nourish your Brain,” starting at 1:30 PM. “Your brain needs fuel to operate efficiently. Eating healthier foods can help you reduce your risk of cognitive decline. She added, this includes more vegetables, leaner meats/proteins, and foods that are less processed and lower in fat. Join me to learn more about how you can Nourish Your Brain during the Memory Café.”
In North Dakota, 8.1% of those aged 45 and over report they are experiencing confusion or memory loss that is happening more often or getting worse. Nearly two-thirds have not talked to a healthcare professional about it.
