(NAFB.com) – After recent unsatisfactory public meetings and a growing series of unanswered questions, the National Chicken Council requested a 90-day extension to the comment period for FSIS’ proposed Salmonella Framework. The Council wants more time to properly analyze the proposal and provide more meaningful comments. “Unfortunately, the two webinars that the Food Safety and Inspection Service provided for constituents to ask questions failed to provide meaningful insights or clarification on most of the questions asked by participants,” says Dr. Ashley Peterson, senior vice president of science and regulatory affairs for the NCC. “Most clarifying and technical questions went unanswered during the presentations.” In sum, Peterson says there are more questions than answers at this point. “The lack of clarity around many aspects of the proposal directly impedes NCC’s and our members’ ability to meaningfully comment on the proposal,” she added. “The webinars showed us FSIS has limited guidance to offer the industry.”
