LISBON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Lisbon man faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening to kill his father over a bottle of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.

Court records state that 31-year-old Hunter Mairs had been using marijuana, Adderall, and nitrous oxide and had been causing disturbances in the family home for weeks. The situation escalated on Thursday night when Mairs’ father took away the laughing gas, prompting Mairs to threaten to shoot him. The threats reportedly continued into Friday.

Mairs’ parents told police that on Friday, a .22-caliber pistol was found on the couch, raising further concerns. Mairs’ mother attempted to call the police, but Mairs allegedly shoved her to the floor and took her phone. When his father intervened, Mairs also shoved him, allowing his mother to retrieve the phone and call for help.

Mairs has been charged with terrorizing, interfering with an emergency call, simple assault, and drug possession.
