VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The League of Women Voters (LWV) announces an evening for voters to meet District 24 House and Senate candidates in person.

The District 24 Legislative Forum will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Hi-Liner Activity Center (HAC) at Valley City High School. Please use the doors on the corner of 4th Street and 2nd Avenue NW.

League of Women Voters volunteers have invited the participation of all North Dakota House and Senate candidates who are on the ballot in our district for the Nov. 5 general election. District candidates include Knut “Pete” Gjovik (D), and Michael Wobbema (R) running for a seat in the North Dakota Senate. The forum also includes Dan Johnston (R), Dwight Kiefert (R), as well as Nancy Farnham (D), and Shawn Olauson (D) running for two seats in the North Dakota House of Representatives.

Valley City State University professors, Dr. Tony Dutton and Dr. Alex Jorgensen, will moderate the forum. Each participating candidate will be able to make brief opening and closing statements. The moderators will ask questions that are submitted by the audience.

“With the general election set Tuesday, November 5th, this is an opportunity for voters to gain first-hand information about who will be on the ballot. It’s also an important opportunity for candidates to hear from their prospective constituents on the issues that matter most to them,” said Angie Martin, a LWV volunteer.

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan civic organization seeking to guarantee that elections are a secure and reliable representation of citizens making their voices heard. Due to road closures around the Hi Liner Activity Center you should either park in the Our Saviors Lutheran Church parking lot which is south of the Hi Liner Activity Center and then walk across the street to the entrance. Another option is to park on the east side of the Hi Liner Activity Center, along Central Avenue and walk to the Hi Liner Activity Center doors along 4th Street Northwest.

The Valley City-Barnes County Development Corporation is working in collaboration with LWV and will provide refreshments.
