VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson said we are excited to welcome our Hi-Liners into the schools. Whether this is the first day of Kindergarten or the last first day of the Senior Year, this is an exciting day for our students, staff, and parents.

Johnson said please, be extra cautious around the school zones. We will have a lot of excited little Hi-Liners that may or may not be looking for vehicles. The safety of our students is always our top priority, especially on the first day of school. Thank you for helping us to make sure that all of our students make it to school and home safely. If you have any safety concerns, you can contact SRO Sean Hagen at 701-840-9761 or the district office at 701-845-0483.

Motorists are being reminded to slow down in school zones and stop when the school bus is flashing red lights.
Under North Dakota Century Code the driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking from either direction of a school bus stopped on highways or city streets shall stop when the school bus stop sign control arm is extended and flashing, the driver may not overtake or pass the school bus.

Police Chief Nick Horner said the department received calls of motorists violating school bus stop signs earlier this year, so he issued another reminder to motorists.

In April, Horner said they received five complaints over a 30-day period compared to one or two throughout a normal school year.
