MAYVILLE- A two-run top of the sixth inning proved decisive as Carrington Post 25 defeated May Port 8-7 on Wednesday evening in Mayville.
It was a wild start to the game, as Kyle Johnson singled home Grady Shipman in the first, but the Patriots answered with a run in the home half. Then in the second, Carrington scored four runs on five consecutive hits for a 5-1 lead, but May Port matched it again on one hit and four walks to tie the game at 5.
Josh Bickett came in for the third inning and eventually earned the win, going five innings and allowing four hits and two unearned runs while walking three and striking out five.
In the sixth, Johnson, who went 4-for-4, doubled and Max Whittman singled before both players scored on wild pitches to give Post 25 the 8-7 lead they would not relinquish.
Carrington will next travel to Velva on Wednesday for a triangular, facing Burlington at 5pm and the hosts Velva at 7pm.
