The Valley City Royals committed five errors in their game one loss to the Fargo Post 2 Jets, one of which allowed a pair of runs to score in the first inning. Another error in the third would allow the Jets to tack on a couple more runs while the Royals tried to get the offense going.

The first run for the Royals would come in the fifth inning after a two-out run rally sparked by Ethan Miller and Gavin Gerhardt brought up Corbyn Powell, who laced a double down the line to pull Valley City within three runs. However, the Jets would limit the damage to only that run, with Valley City striking out with the tying run at the plate.

Miller would toss 5.2 IP, only allowing a pair of earned runs while going 2-4 at the plate with a pair of singles. Miller would be pulled for Gerhardt in the sixth inning, who got the final out of the frame. However, control issues and a double would allow the Jets to add on one more insurance run in the top of the seventh. Powell would again come to the plate with two men on in the seventh, but a lineout to LF would result in a double play after Miller left for home on contact.

The Royals would then bounce back in the next game, jumping on the Fargo pitching staff early, cementing themselves to an early 1-0 lead after a fly-out and a throwing error. The Royals would continue to stack on the runs and hits as they entered the fifth inning leading 9-0.

The Jets would rally for a pair of runs in the top half of the fifth as they looked to mount a last-minute rally. However, the Royals would match the Jet’s rally with one of their own as Corbyn Powell laced a bases-loaded two-out, two-run single to stake the Royals to an 11-2 lead, setting up Will Schwehr to drive in the winning run from third base potentially. Schwehr would waste no time sealing the win, jumping on a first-pitch fastball and depositing it into the outfield to drive in Gerhardt to give the Royals a 12-2 victory in five innings.

The Valley City Post 60 Royals’ next game is Friday, June 14th, when they cross the border to take on Sacred Heart (MN) at 5:00 PM.
