The Valley City Royals erupted again for double-digit runs led by Corbyn Powell, who launched his second home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning. The scoring for Valley City commenced in the second inning when they struck for runs on four hits and capitalized off an error by the Minot Metros. Trevor Fetsch had a solid offensive outing from the six-hole, going 3-3 with a double and scoring all three times he reached base.

Will Schwehr also put together six strong innings of work, only allowing three earned runs while striking out five batters. In his lone inning of work, Andrew Sykora would finish the game off for Valley City, punching out a pair of batters.

Valley City’s next game is on Tuesday, June 11th, against the Fargo Jets. The game can be heard on 1490 AM/ 96.3 FM KOVC.

Carrington would be matched up in the third-place game, squaring off against the Park River Pirates in a riddled with drama. After taking an early 1-0 lead in the first, Carrington would commit five errors in the bottom half of the inning, which allowed the Pirates to take a 6-1 lead going into the second. Both teams would exchange a run in the second inning, with the game sitting at 7-2 in favor of Park River going into the 4th inning.

The Redbirds would rally for three runs in the top half of the fourth, with Owen Hagel driving in his third run of the day. Park River managed to claw one back in the bottom half of the inning, and after a scoreless fifth, both sides were looking to end the game strong. The Cardinals would pound out three extra-base hits in the top half of the sixth to tie the game up at 8-8 going into the bottom half. But Carrington would commit their eighth error of the game, and along with some solid hitting from Park River, the Pirates would re-establish their three-run lead heading to the seventh.

Park River Isaac Porter would snuff out any remaining potential embers for a Carrington rally, sitting the Redbirds down to seal Park River’s 11-8 win. The next game for Carrington will be June 13th against Sheyenne-New Rockford.
