JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Two individuals are facing charges in Stutsman County after their toddler overdosed on drugs, law enforcement officials said.
Christopher Johnson stands accused of endangering a child, reckless endangerment, and multiple drug-related charges, while Rhiannon Hufstetler is charged with reckless endangerment and a drug-related offense.
According to court documents, on June 2, authorities responded to a residence in the 1300 block of 6th Avenue NW following reports of an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, officers found Hufstetler outside holding her unconscious two-year-old daughter. Administering Narcan, officers managed to revive the child, who was then transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
Johnson reportedly admitted to using fentanyl while caring for his daughter. He claimed to have fallen asleep and discovered his daughter unconscious upon waking up. Surveillance footage allegedly depicts Johnson losing consciousness after ingesting drugs while his daughter remained unresponsive on the kitchen counter.
Police discovered drug paraphernalia throughout the residence, with most items reportedly accessible to the couple’s young children.
Both Johnson and Hufstetler admitted to using drugs on June 2 during interviews with investigators.
