Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Post 36 Tornadoes got their season started off well with a 6-4 victory over Fairmount Post 106.
The game started with Fairmount striking first scoring 1 run on 3 hits in the first inning. However Michael Hoistad would buckle down and strike out 2 of the 3 outs in the inning to get through the jam with minimal damage stranding 2 baserunners. Oakes would strike right back with a run of their own as Cooper Quandt would drive in Chris Titus on an RBI single the third out of the inning would come on that same play however as Hoistad would be thrown out at home as he also tried to score.
The next two innings saw minimal batters with Fairmount getting stranding a man on 1st in the 2nd inning and on 3rd in the 3rd inning. Oakes wouldn’t have another baserunner till the 4th inning when they would score 2 runs on 1 hit and an error to take the 3-1 lead after 4.
Fairmount would respond right away scoring 3 unearned runs in the top half of the 5th off of 2 hits and an error to take the lead back at 4-3. Oakes wouldn’t go quietly into the goodnight though as they would plate their first 3 men of the inning off of a couple wild pitches and a fielders choice to reclaim a 2 run lead. That lead would hold for the rest of the ball game as in the next two innings Fairmount would only get 2 baserunners both of whom would be caught stealing by Titus. Oakes would win 6-4.
The winning pitcher was Michael Hoistad who went 7.0 IP with 8 hits and 4 runs allowed of which only 1 was earned. He’d also strike out 9 and walk 1. Avery Koschney would pick up the loss going 4.0 IP allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, 5 runs of which 4 were earned, and striking out 7.
The Bank North Players of the Game were Hoistad for his pitching and Titus for his defense and batting.
