VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Fundraising efforts continue with the roof restoration project of the Valley City Barnes County Public Library.

Library Board President Hilde van Gijssel said the goal is to raise $381,000 to repair the roof and restore the rotunda dome back to its original 1903 state. She said even though construction work starts on Tuesday, the library will remain open to the public.

She said the library will be holding more fundraising events including the sale of raffle tickets.

Hilde van Gijssel said if all goes well the project should be completed by August of 2024. The full interview is below.

On Tuesday, May 21st, the Valley City Commission approved of a historical grant application for the public library’s rotunda renovation of the 1903 Carnegie library roof restoration project in the amount of $25,000. The Valley City Visitor’s Committee made the recommendation for the library.
