SIOUX CENTER, IA – A loss brought Jamestown Jimmies softball to the brink of elimination, but a win then kept their season going.

On Wednesday, in the first day of the GPAC Softball Championship, Jamestown lost their opening game 4-2 to Dordt, but then defeated Doane 3-2 in an elimination game in the American State Bank Sports Complex.

Dordt 4, Jamestown 2

Jamestown (29-15) was held to three hits, but was tied with Dordt at 2-2 before the Defenders scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Trin Gregg stole home on the back end of a double steal for the Jimmies’ first run in the first inning.

Abby Blair drove in the other run in the fourth inning with a double.

Blair (10-8) took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs and seven hits.

Jamestown 3, Doane 2

Gracie Fisher kept the season going for the Jimmies (30-15) with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Sam Martinez led off the inning with a single and Kayla Quintanilla bunted her to second.  With two out, Fisher delivered the winning hit.

Quintanilla had doubled in a two-run first inning for UJ before Doane scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Hope Ransome (14-4) allowed two runs and seven hits for the win.

Jamestown will meet Dordt again on Thursday in an elimination game at 10:00 AM.  The winner will then play Midland and will have to defeat the Warriors twice to advance to the GPAC championship game on Saturday.
