VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCBCPL) – The following is a news released from the Valley City Barnes County Public Library.
“Just as in life in any situation, sometimes things need to change or work differently. This is going to be very true for life in the library this summer! With the city’s street work project closing 4th Street on the south side of the library and our own planned construction beginning soon, library services will be different this summer. The good news is that we plan to stay open through all of it!
There are some things to note though. The west entrance to the library will remain closed for the summer or at least until the dome restoration project is completed. There is a temporary sidewalk from Central Ave. which patrons can utilize to access the doors on the south side of the library. If one chooses to park in the library parking lot, you are also welcome to use
the green door on the north side of the library that is marked “staff.” Access may change again when they close the sidewalk for installation of the new sidewalk. We will keep the public informed of the best way to access the library when that happens.
During our roof and restoration project, circulation services will take place in the addition which is on the east end of the library. The 1903 portion of the building will be closed for the restoration of the dome. We will be housing a portion of the library’s collection off site, yet we will still provide patrons access to these items by request. We ask patrons to give us at
least 24 hrs. to process requests for offsite items. While we realize this will most likely limit services in some ways, we are totally excited to get our roof fixed so we will no longer need to worry about items (and our building) getting damaged by water. We will do our best to accommodate our patrons by providing our usual services in the same welcoming manner,
and to keep the public informed of any changes in access or services. Changes will begin Friday, May 3rd with moving the nonfiction and other items offsite. We will be open on Friday during the major part of the move, however, we do plan to close on Monday, May 6th to complete the move and to get everything organized. We want to be sure all circulation services
are working properly.
I want to say a special thanks ahead of time to all those who have volunteered to help with this move! Your dedication and support to your public library is very much appreciated! The importance of this library shows in its more than 10,000 physical checkouts and the 6,200 digital checkouts by patrons so far this year! In the words of Andrew Carnegie, “A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.”
I encourage you (the public) to stop by anytime and see what is happening at your library. 410 Central Ave. N., Hours: Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat., 10 am to 5 pm, Tues., and Thurs., 10 am-7 pm.”
