It was a rough doubleheader in Fargo for Valley City. The Hi-Liners dropped their first game to the Fargo Davies Eagles 10-4 before heading to West Fargo to take on the Packers.

The second game of the doubleheader started out promising as the Hi-Liners took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after a fielding error by the Packers. But walks would pave the way for the Packers to explode for six runs in the inning after a three-run double split the gap in left-center. The free passes issued by the Hi-Liners pitching staff would be the game’s main storyline, as Valley City pitchers walked 12 batters on the day and hit three batters.

The Hi-Liners, who will play four games in four days this week, used three pitchers in the game, with starter Bryson Heck only going one inning. James Schwehr got the Hi-Liners to the third before being pulled for Andrew Sykora. In the third inning, the Packers busted the game wide open, plating seven in the frame to take a 14-2 lead.

Trailing 15-2 heading into the fifth inning, Valley City plated a pair of runs after a two-run single by Sykora to cut the deficit down to 11 runs with one out, only needing two more to keep the game alive. However, a pair of bounce-outs would seal the game as West Fargo wrapped up the 15-4 win.

The next game for the Hi-Liners will be tomorrow, as they’ll head to Fargo South to take on the Bruins at 5:30 PM and can be heard on 1490 AM/ 96.3 FM KOVC.
