CARRINGTON- In just their second-ever home game in program history, the Carrington Cardinals could not keep up with a defending state tournament qualifier as the Thompson Tommies cruised to a six-inning 20-3 win on Thursday afternoon at Cardinal Softball Field.
Sydney Schwabe hit an infield single and scored in the first for a 1-0 lead before a monster second inning saw Thompson (1-1) score eight runs on five hits to build a 9-0 lead.
Carrington, however, made adjustments to Tommies starter Dru Schwab, and scored three in the fourth inning on RBIs from Kaydence VanRay, Calleigh Hewitt, and Lauren Hendrickson to cut the deficit to 9-3.
But after Cindy Eliason homered to make it 10-3 in the fifth, Thompson erupted for 10 runs on eight hits in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
The Cardinals are back in action April 18th, facing Northern Lights on the road.
