Oakes, ND (Newsdakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes led the Oak Grove Grovers going into the 7th inning by a score of 7-4. The Grovers would plate 13 on 7 hits and 8 walks or hit batters to win 17-8.

The game started with the Grovers scoring first after getting 2 hits and taking advantage of an error on a pick-off attempt to take a 1-0 in the top of the 1st inning. Oakes would then follow that up with their first hit of the season as James Throener would bunt the first pitch down the 3rd baseline. Chris Titus would follow that up with a line-drive single to left to get on. A passed ball would put the runners in scoring position. They’d both score on fielders choices on the next 2 batters giving Oakes a 2-1 lead.

The 2nd inning would go by with no damage done to either team. The next run would again be unearned for Oak Grove in the 3rd inning with Greyson Doctor scoring on an E4 to tie up the game. Oakes would then score 3 runs on 2 hits and an error to reclaim the lead at 5-2. Both teams would go down in order in the 4th inning.

Oak Grove would drag themselves back to within 1 run after scoring 2 runs on 1 hit in the 5th inning. Oakes would respond with 2 runs on 3 hits to take a 7-4 lead after 5. Both teams would go down in order in the 6th. The 7th saw the collapse of the Tornadoes pitching as the Grovers would score 13 runs on 7 hits with 8 batters walked or hit by a pitch. 9 of those runs were scored with 2 outs. The Tornadoes would plate 1 run in their half of the seventh to lead to the final score of 17-8.

The winning pitcher was Jake Ring going 2.0 IP with 2 H’s, 4 K’s, 1 ER the losing pitcher was Noah Wood going 1.2 IP with 2 H’s, 2 BB’s, 2 HBP, 1 K, 6 ER.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Michael Hoistad who started the game on the mound for Oakes going 5.0 IP with 4 H’s, 2 BB’s, 2 HBP’s, 6 K’s, 4 R’s, 2 ER’s and he went 2/4 at the plate with 2 RBI’s.
