VALLEY CITY, ND  (VCSUVikings.com)  After a big series at the plate and on the pitcher’s plate, a Viking has won a weekly conference award.

Valley City State sophomore Logan Gronberg has been named North Star Athletic Association Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Gronberg helped the Vikings to a 4-0 sweep of Dakota State over the weekend.

Gronberg led Valley City State to a 4-0 sweep of Dakota State. She went 9-of-11 at the plate (.818 batting average), added a home run, a double, and drove in three runs. She scored two runs and produced a slugging percentage of 1.182. Gronberg also picked up two saves in the pitcher’s circle and did not allow a run while striking out four batters.

Gronberg is a sophomore from Bismarck.

Valley City State (N.D.) earned their third straight NSAA conference series sweep, defeating Dakota State (S.D.) in four games.  The Vikings held on to 6-1 and 5-3 victories on April 5, followed by a pair of five-inning wins (9-1 and 11-1) on April 6.  VCSU extended their winning streak to 12 games, raising their overall record to 20-15 and 12-3 NSAA conference record.  The Trojans fell to 5-20 overall record and 2-10 record in the North Star contests.

The Vikings take a 12-game winning streak to the University of Jamestown today.
