SIOUX CENTER, IA – When defense struggles, a softball team can struggle.  Jamestown’s defense certainly did struggle on Tuesday.

Dordt swept the Jimmies in GPAC softball 7-6 and 7-4 at the American State Bank Sports Complex as Jamestown committed seven errors.

Game 1: Dordt 7, Jamestown 6

Jamestown (18-6, 4-1 GPAC) couldn’t hold an early 5-0 lead as Dordt scored six runs in their half of the third inning.

Maddie Spaeth hit a two-run double and Sam Martinez slammed a three-run homer in a five-run second inning, but Dordt knocked out Hope Ransome (6-2) with their big frame.

Dordt scored another run in the fourth.  Kayla Quintanilla, last week’s GPAC Player of the Week, homered for the game’s final run in the fifth.

Jamestown had three errors in the game.

Game 2: Dordt 7, Jamestown 4

An error by the Jimmies led to a three-run go-ahead double by Dordt’s Lauren Steenstra in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and complete the sweep for the Defenders (15-14, 2-0).

Quintanilla and Gentry Turin hit two-run doubles for Jamestown (18-7, 4-2), with Turin’s hit tying the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth.

Abby Blair (7-4) pitched the last four innings in relief of starter Sunny Halsey, who allowed four runs.  Blair struck out five.

Jamestown will host Northwestern in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 3 inside the Nelson Family Bubble.  Coverage will begin at around 2:45 PM on Thunder 98.3.
