Jocelyn Schiller is 2024 Miss Basketball for North Dakota and Deng Deng is the state’s Mr. Basketball.  The winners were announced Friday.  Voting was conducted by members of the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Schiller had an impressive season for Grand Forks Red River.  The 5’7″ senior guard averaged 26.5 points, six rebounds, 6.2 assists and 5.5 steals per game.  Schiller, who has committed to play at the University of North Dakota, shot 76 percent of her free throws.  She received 21 of 24 first-place votes.

For Deng, basketball isn’t even his best sport.  He was first team all-state in football at Four Winds/Minnewaukan as a wide receiver and has committed to play football at UND.  Still, Deng averaged 27.2 points per game and tied a school record with a 47-point game.  He also averaged eight rebounds and shot 56 percent from the floor.  Deng garnered 19 of 24 first-place votes.
