DeVerne Hoggarth, 90, Valley City, ND passed away at CHI Mercy Health in Valley City on March 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. The funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Valley City. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 PM as well as the hour prior to the funeral. There will be a prayer service Tuesday at 7:00 beginning with the praying of the Rosary.
DeVerne Ellsworth Hoggarth, the son of Vern and Gertrude (McDaniel) Hoggarth, was born to on April 24, 1933. He was the oldest son leaving 10 brothers and sisters. DeVerne was a loyal and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather; a man of deep faith and service to the Catholic Church, which included tireless dedication to the success of the Nearly New Store. He proudly served in the US Army, and was stationed in Korea. The Knights of Columbus, the ND Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation benefited from his leadership.
DeVerne is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret; their daughters, Debora (Deacon Joe) Leitner of Valley City, and Barb (Tom) Winger of Asheville, NC; sons, Thomas (Teri) of Little Falls, MN and Timothy (Amie) of Sioux Falls, SD; Their grandchildren, Philip Leitner, Valley City; Nathan (Adrienne) Leitner, Farmington, MN; Amy (Brad) Arnold, Harvey, ND, Kyle (Michelle) Hoggarth, Little Falls, MN, Aubrey (Cody) Hoggarth Cook, Randall, Minnesota MN, and Cody and Jerome Hoggarth, Valley City; Great grandchildren; Gavin, Vera, and Victor Hoggarth, Pearl and Weston Cook, Carter and Emmitt Leitner, Elle and Byron Arnold; along with his many brothers and sisters.
DeVerne is preceded in death by his be parents and three siblings. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Saint Catherine’s Catholic School, Valley City.
