SIOUX CITY, IA – Offense abounded for University of Jamestown Softball Thursday in a sweep of Briar Cliff to start 2024 GPAC play.

The Jimmies defeated the Chargers 13-1 and 8-5 at Bishop Mueller Field.

Game 1: Jamestown 13, Briar Cliff 1 (5)

Jamestown (15-5, 1-0 GPAC) trailed 1-0 before scoring four runs in the fourth inning.  Maddie Spaeth drove in the first two with a double, then Abby Blair’s second career home run doubled the Jimmie lead.

The Jimmies then finished off the Chargers with nine runs in the fifth inning.  Kayla Quintanilla and Mackenzie Lefebvre hit back-to-back homers to open the inning.  Blair singled in one run, Gentrey Turin singled in two, Samarah Martinez doubled in two more runs and Quintanilla drove in her second run of the inning with a double.

Hope Ransome (6-1) pitched a six-hitter for the win, allowing a run and six hits and striking out five.

Game 2: Jamestown 8, Briar Cliff 5

The Jimmies rallied from a 4-2 deficit to complete the sweep.

Trinity Gregg brought Jamestown (16-5, 2-0 GPAC) to within a run with an RBI single to start a four-run fifth.  An error by Briar Cliff allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score, then Ally Batistoni singled in a run for a 6-4 Jamestown lead.

Martinez and Quintanilla singled in runs in the Jamestown fifth.

Earlier, Martinez and Lefebvre had RBI singles in the Jimmie first inning.

Blair (6-3) pitched a complete game for the win.
