VALLEY CITY, N.D. (SVCF) – The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) proudly recognizes the five-year milestone of the Litchville Fire Department Endowment Fund. Established anonymously, this fund has emerged as a resource supporting rural firefighting efforts in the Litchville area.

The Litchville Fire Department Endowment Fund was established in 2019 when an anonymous donor was moved by the department’s response to assist a woman in need of urgent medical care. Such incidents underscore the myriad of challenges rural firefighters face, from grass fires to chemical spills and farm accidents. These responders often serve as the first line of support, aiding neighbors, friends, and fellow community members in times of crisis.

“We’re deeply grateful for the generosity of the donor who initiated the Litchville Fire Department Endowment Fund,” said Tony Bruse, Chief of the Litchville Fire Department. “Their support has enhanced our department’s ability to address equipment needs crucial for ensuring community safety.”

The Litchville Fire Department seeks to expand the fund and uphold the original donor’s intent and passion. Managed and invested by the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation, the endowment fund provides annual distributions to support necessary improvements in the department’s operations and capabilities, including equipment upgrades and ongoing training. Contributions to the Litchville Fire Department Endowment Fund also offer a unique opportunity for supporters to benefit from the North Dakota Charitable Income Tax Credit. This credit enables individuals to reduce their state income tax liability by up to 40% of their donation of $5,000 or more, offering a meaningful way to support the community while maximizing tax benefits.
