JAMESTOWN – With an eye toward the future of NCAA Division II, University of Jamestown Men’s Basketball made its head coaching hire someone who knows the Jimmies’ future conference.

Casey Bruggeman was named Monday as UJ’s next head coach.  Bruggeman takes over after Greg Ulland led Jamestown on an interim basis this past season.  Ulland took control after the resignations of head coach Danny Neville and assistant Taylor Jones in November.

Bruggeman spent the last two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of South Dakota.  For the Coyotes, his duties were to manage compliance, academics for student-athletes, finances and team travel.  Also, Bruggeman assisted with game preparation, practice scheduling and recruiting.

For four seasons before that, Bruggeman was an assistant at Minnesota-Duluth, which is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the league Jamestown is scheduled to join in 2025-26 upon entry into NCAA Division II.  In those four seasons, the Bulldogs were 70-32.  In 2021-22, UMD was 25-6, setting a program record for most wins in a season.  The Bulldogs won the NSIC North Division and received an at-large bid to the 2022 Division II NCAA Tournament.

Bruggeman played collegiately at Concordia University-Moorhead.  He was voted as a team captain in his senior season, which unfortunately ended for Bruggeman after only three games due to injury.
